Ice Fest - Set up the schedule for the pasta dinner for Ice Fest.
Training - Chief is working on a training schedule for 2016.
Ambulance - The annual Ambulance membership forms were passed out to all in attendance. Members who missed the meeting can pick up their form at the fire house.
Sponsorship - Chief indicated that Bernie Pierce, Athletic Director at the Ouray High School, was seeking a $75.00 sponsorship ad from the department to be placed in the District Basketball tournament flyer. A motion was made, seconded and approved to offer this support.
Basketball Court - The basketball court was again discussed as regards painting the OVFD logo and basketball lines prior to doing any pickle ball lines. Chief expressed a desire to have OVFD step up with maintaining our investment in the court and all members were in agreement.
A presentation from a member of the pickle ball group may take place at the next department meeting. Further discussion centered on utilization of our special funds to pay for the sealing and painting/maintenance of the court, as well as care for the backboards and nets. All attending members were in favor of this.
Bonfire - The Ouray High School annual homecoming bonfire was scheduled for this coming Thursday, January 14 at 7 PM in Fellin Park. Both the Timberwolf and Tender will be involved, with no kids riding on top this year due to safety concerns.
Membership - Doug Gregory has issued a letter of resignation, which was accepted. It was suggested that the department recognize Doug's years of service and purchase a commemorative helmet, to be paid for from special funds. A motion was made, second and passed unanimously.
Fireworks - A lengthy discussion was held regarding the safety of our fireworks shows. The department is looking into obtaining new, safer tubes, trailer repairs and upgrades, as well as the development of a roofing structure to protect the equipment from the elements.
The department also considered setting up safe ignition zones as well as the use of protection equipment such as an additional walled trailer to protect the participants. The costs of such endeavors will be examined and discussed at the next meeting.
Rookies No More - Amy Winterrowd was recognized for completing her one year of rookie training, and was presented with her new OVFD helmet. Congratulations Amy and thank you for your dedication to the department!
